About this site
BeyonwizBeyonwiz creates combinations of Personal Video Recorders (PVR) and Media Centers. These devices can be used to receive and record broadcasted SD and HD data. Also videos (DivX, Xvid, MPEG-4, ...), music (MP3, Ogg, ...) and pictures (Jpg, ...) can be played with these devices.

This site lists software developed for Beyonwiz products.

A Perl script (and some supporting Perl modules) to list, fetch or delete the recordings on a Beyonwiz DP series PVR over the network using the WizPnP interface.

Download
Version: 0.3.3
Author: prl

Release notes

New:

  • New option --discover to just run the device discovery algorithm and print a list of discovered WizPnP servers and their IP addresses. Mainly for WizZilla support.
  • Added IP address of device in the "Connecting to..." line. Mainly for WizZilla support.
  • Changes MB in verbose output to the more correct MiB.
  • Configuration file now searched for in %APPDATA%\Prl\getWizPnP in Windows.
  • Configuration file now searched for in %APPDATA%\Prl\getWizPnP in Windows, and called getwizpnp.conf in Windows, rather than the .getwizpnp in Unix-like systems.

Bugs:

  • Uses bignum package for 64-bit integers, even when the underlying Perl integers are 64 bits.
  • When resuming a download, may fetch up to 32MB more data than is necessary.
  • Minor known problems that deleting a recording can cause are documented in the BUGS section of the docuentation. It is not known whether deleting a recording using getWizPnP can cause any major problems on the Beyonwiz.
  • Does not allow operations on media files from the Beyonwiz contents folder (access to the contents folder is available only in Beyonwiz firmware versions 01.05.261 and later).
  • Folder operations only work on firmware 1.05.280 and later
  • Sort on title only works on firmware 1.05.280 and later

Fixed:

  • Fixed some inaccuracies in recording size printouts.
  • File not being closed on non-error exit from Beyonwiz::Recording::FileHeader::readHdrChunk() was causing recording deletion to fail in --move on Windows. Fixed.
  • Fixed the problem of frequent WizPnP device search failures on Windows by ensuring that the request and response sockets, which are bound to the same port, don't remain open at the same time.

Folks,
please find attached my first release of WizPcl - this is definitely a Beta but seems to work okay for me. Apologies for the timing but I am away for a few weeks and so questions may not get answered for a while. WizPcl needs to be understood to be used so please read all instructions below - especially how to run in batch mode.

WizPcl can best be described as a rule based background downloader. As an example it can be
given a rule such as

Please download any files from my Beyonwiz in the "Lounge" with the words "Time" and "Team" in
the program name that are smaller than 10 GB and are in the directory "recording". When these have
been downloaded convert them to .ts files and put them in the "c:\local TT" folder.

Once the rules and a few other parameters have been set WizPcl can be run in batch mode (parameter batch on command line). As long as there is enough common uptime between your PC and your Beyonwiz the transfers will occur as the programs are recorded.

WizPc Instructions
To configure WizPcl just run the executable with no command line parameters.
The main screen provides the following options
Program Rules
The List - shows the current program rules
Add, Edit Delete Rule - used to manage the program rules - see below for details
Up, down - changes program rule order
   Information - help information etc
Options

Delay between files in seconds - sleep time put between each segment file download - used to reduce
processing overhead. - recommend 5 sec.

Delay between Checking for Beyonwiz's in seconds - the delay the program uses to check if a
Beyonwiz device has come on line - too frequent will put unnecessary burden on beyonwiz and too
infrequent will delay downloads - recommend 600 seconds (10 min)

No of Log files - recommend 5 - 10 for reasonable activity history

Download Order - select the order in which programs should be downloaded e.g. smallest first etc

Run Mode - can be standalone or WizPlayer Integrated.
if Wizplayer integrated run mode is selected WizPcl shares directory with WizPlayer so they benefit
from the others downloads  and there is an additional rule option to only download the WizPlayer
precache (means you can watch shows in WizPlayer without any waiting at all) as well as download full program.
If Standalone run mode is selected you will also need to enter a file location and any favorites.
WizPlayer integrated will only appear as an option is WizPlayer is installed.

Creating Rules.
Click Add Rule button and you will see the Rule form appear. To create a rule enter details as
follows.
Note
any fields left blank or 0 will be ignored in the rule e.g. will match all programs
all fields are case IN -sensitive - case does not matter

Name - must be unique and is your name for the rule e.g. Time team

Beyonwiz name contains - text that identifies the name you gave to your Beyonwiz device name e.g.
"Lounge"

Program name contain 1,2 and 3 - text that helps identify the program name e.g. "The" and
"Hollowmen"

Definition - HD, SD or both

Download size less than - sets maximum download size in Mbytes

Age More than in days - age of the program (since recorded) in days - why ? - it allows you to view and
more importantly edit files before they download if you wait a couple of days.

In Directory - the Beyonwiz directory where the program sits - very strict syntax as follows.
Recording - just the recording directory
Recording/ - recording directory and any sub directories
Recording/Fred - just the Fred directory
Recording/Fred/ - the Fred directory and any sub directories

The actions fields describe what will be done

Download - Full Program or WizPlayer PreCache - depends on run mode - see comments above
If download Full Program is selected then you have additional options to convert the downloaded file
to a .ts file and specify the directory where it will be stored.

Batch mode
Once you have configured WizPcl with options and rules you must run it in batch mode for it to do your
bidding.
To run in batch mode run the WizPcl.exe file with the word batch as a command parameter.
In batch mode WizPcl will run minimized. You can maximize it to see all the logging information for the
main, download and conversion threads.
WizPcl is designed so that the batch mode should occur during normal activity. A way to do this is to
run WizPcl in batch mode in your startup folder or as a windows scheduler job.
You will need to ensure that both your Beyonwiz's and WizPcl are both running at the same time for
transfer to occur. Some people leave there servers on all the time - others like me have kids that play
games - either will do as long as they can talk at some point.

Some additional comments.

Wizpcl has been designed to run in a distributed mode e.g. Put you file locations on a NAS and
run WizPcl on several machines - they will all write to the NAS but should not get in each others way.
WizPcl has separate threads for each Beyonwiz device.
If you clean up your PC copy of a program don't be surprised if it gets downloaded again - if you need
to make space delete the program files but lave the “complete.flg” file in the directory and Wizpcl will
still think it's there.

Some ways to use the rules
1.   A series you want to burn - create a rule based on program name
2.   Ad hoc programs - have a rule based on a beyonwiz directory e.g. recording/saveem then
when you see something while watching you want to keep move it to the directory.

Enjoy

cheers

Nigel
