Folks,
    here is Wizplayer Version 0.2.

General

There will probably only be one more release (1.0) after this one just to finalise any bugs.

Bugs fixed

1. Directory problem with complex locations (I think)
2. Fixed a bug in the favorites not saving

Enhancements

1. Assembled files using BW editing information
The program should now understand all the editing done on the BW rather than some of it as in V0.1

2. Handles radio programs
Radio programs get skipped

3. Works with sub directories
New firmware shows files in sub directories - these can now be watched and there are no errors

4. Release as a single zip
The upload limits have been increased on Beyonwiz software site so I can upload as a single ZIP

5. Put in version screen

6. Put in long term measurement of network speed
The long term network speed is now calculated over time. This gives an indication for your download
speed - as an starting point set download speed about 10% below the long term network sped. Download
speed has to include additional overheads than the network e.g. high levels of editing etc

7. Cleaned up the log information
Wizplayer.log in location directory can be checked for errors etc

8. Cleaned up the code
Its easier to follows but still overly complicated

9. Error Handling much better
Errors are handled better.

10.  Downloads Restarts from where left off
Now picks up from previous if interrupted etc.

11. Files previously downloaded show on progress / precache bars
If you look at a show that has already been watched the progress and precache bars show you the
status based on what's already on disk. This helps to see that there may be no prechace required etc.

12. Changed suffix on segment files
Previously I used the .ts suffix on segment files but have now changed to just . to be consistent with BW
approach. The advantages are that the play local option can be used to play programs downloaded
or copied using standard BW tools e.g. WizFx etc. The bad news is that you will need to rename the
files of any existing programs - this can be done manually but the tool add remove ts does a great job.
If you get a file error when you first download and play then stop Wizplayer and manually delete the file
progoram.mpg in your location directory - its some weird transitional issue.

13. play local prompts if not all file present
It checks for all the segments and tells you how many and asks if you wish to proceed.

14. Counting web page
First time you run a new version a web page will be launched to allow me to count how many users etc.

Has not had as long as version 0.1 testing - any bugs please let me know (nigelchris@optusnet.com.au)

enjoy

cheers

Good one!
I have VLC installed but nothing seems to happen when I choose play local apart from it appends the selected Wizy directory .ts files into a program.mpg file?

Marty,
probably right - works on my 32 bit Vista but my version of Delphi is old. Can you install it under any compatibility mode.

Sorry, that does not work.
Error is as below in the picture.

I installed it under Windows XP on my VMware which runs under Vista Ultimate 64bit.
Playback was a bit choppy, would prefer to try under native vista.

It looks like a straight forward 32 / 64 bit issue. I can only suggest a 32 bit machine sorry.

I love the idea of this player .. well done !!

I'm able to start WizPlayer 0.2, my DP-P2 is found - and the recordings displayed correctly.

However, I'm not sure how to 'stream' the contents of a file and watch, while the file is being streamed down to my PC. Using the "Download and Play", the entire file comes down into a local directory, then assembled into a MPG file which can be played with VLC.

This is useful - but I'm really looking for the streaming.

many thanks,
Halon.

Halon,
thanks for your feedback - its appreciated.

Unfortunately WizPlayer doesn't do streaming as such. I did investigate it at the start but it didn't really offer any advantages.

On the surface it may appear that streaming takes less disk space but my impression was that tthe browser caches a local copy of the program anyway, hence I went for the file based approach which fits easier with the Beyonwiz protocol.

Just curious what is it you actually want from streaming ?

cheers

I have both a DP-P2 and a DP-H1 .. the H1 can access the P2 across the network and instantly start playing the recordings from the hard disk on the P2. The recordings are 'streamed' over the network from the P2 to the H1 in real time.

It would be great to replicate this feature with a PC .. that recordings from the P2 (P1/S1) can be played back across the LAN on a PC. I'm glad I purchased a DP-H1, because it works well upstairs, but it's not very convenient. A laptop that can 'stream' and play recordings from a P2 is much more convenient.

Halon,
I see what you mean now - what the BW is doing is probably not really streaming rather its just playing from a remote location - but it does have the additional value in that can jump to anywhere in the program.

For me to do this would be difficult as its quite hard to integrate VLC (the player) with my program. Right now all I do is start VLC and then feed it files. I originally had VLC integrated as an object in my program but as good as VLC is the object interface basically doesn't work.

Sorry for that but I cant see it ever being true streaming.

While on the topic - you mention you have 2 BW devices - there is a bug in Wizplayer 0.2 (currrent version) that means you can really find programs on both at the same time. This is being fixed (someone else raised it with me) and if you like I can give you a pre release copy. Its up to you really - drop me an email (nigelchris@optusnet.com.au) if you want a copy.

cheers

I can imagine how hard it would be, thats why I was very excited about WizPlayer Smiley

the DP-H1 doesn't have any local storage - so it's not a problem for me .. however, there is another problem I've noticed .. VLC doesn't start automatically .. after the downloading of the recording (from the P2), and the compiling into the MPG movie, I need to start VLC manually and load the 'program.mpg' file. My email address is halon@w617.com

Halon,
VLC not launching is a bit weird - there was another guy who had a similar problem and it turned out his VLC install was stuffed up - some suggestions.

1. Have a look in log file wizplayer.log in yor movies directory - search for the word launching and also for error
2. What version of vlc do you have - min is 0.9.4
3. See if you get errors launching it manually from dos prompt e.g. c:\.....\vlc.exe c:\....\program/mpg

Hope this helps.

cheers

yep - problem was an old version of VLC .. upgraded to a more recent version and all good .. I can also see what you are achieving with building the program.mpg file ..

Instead of 'precaching' the entire recording (I guess this is what you are doing), is it possible to precaching only about 5 minutes of the recording, build the program.mpg file from that, start VLC, then download the rest of the recording (in 5 minutes blocks) and append to the program.mpg file in the background while you are watching.

just a thought ..

Halon,
glad your problems fixed. In terms of precaching what your suggesting (precache a bit) is in fact what I am doing. If you have the download speed set correctly is calculates a precachce size based on

how long will the move run
how long will it take to download (size in bytes / download speed)

the difference between the two is the precache size.

My network supports about 1100 KB/s and so for a SD show of an hour the precache time is about 1 minute - hence I wait about a minute for the show to start. For HD shows this is much longer as the file sizes are about 2 - 4 times the size of SD.

If your saying that it downloads the whole show first for SD shows then something is wrong.

As I say for me most SD shows start within a couple of minutes.

cheers

Nigel
